TelAve News/10882406
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ As winter weather approaches the Columbia area, a 14-person City of Columbia Public Works snowplow crew is gearing up for duty. According to forecasts, temperatures are expected to stay just above freezing overnight on Friday into Saturday, with the possibility of mixed precipitation and slush developing on pavement surfaces.

The Public Works staff will be closely monitoring the storm as it tracks primarily north of Columbia. However, if the front shifts south, additional resources will be activated and extra crew members are on standby. In addition, a daytime crew is scheduled to report at 7 a.m. on Saturday to continue monitoring conditions.

In light of these conditions, drivers in Columbia are advised to use safe winter weather driving techniques if travel is necessary. This includes reducing speed, allowing extra time for stopping, and entering intersections slowly to avoid skidding. It's important to note that as precipitation begins, conditions can change quickly, especially on bridges and elevated surfaces.

The Public Works department will provide updates as needed throughout the event. Stay tuned for further information and stay safe during this winter weather event.
