Gov. Kemp: Georgia Lottery Reaches Over $30 Billion for Education
TelAve News/10882557
ATLANTA ~ Governor Brian P. Kemp of Georgia proudly announced today that the Georgia Lottery Corporation (GLC) has reached a significant milestone by raising over $30 billion for education in the state since its establishment in 1993. These funds have had a profound impact on the lives of millions of Georgians, providing them with essential early learning opportunities through the Georgia Pre-K program and making higher education accessible through the HOPE Scholarship and Grant programs.
To commemorate this achievement, Governor Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp were joined by University System of Georgia Chancellor Sonny Perdue, University of Georgia President Jere Morehead, and Georgia Institute of Technology President Angel Cabrera at the Georgia-Georgia Tech game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Friday. GLC CEO Gretchen Corbin and Board Chairman John Irby presented a ceremonial check to mark this momentous occasion.
In a statement, Governor Kemp expressed his pride in congratulating the Georgia Lottery on this historic milestone and recognizing its impact on countless students. He also highlighted how these programs have set up generations of Georgians for success by expanding access to high-quality education in the state. The governor looks forward to seeing this legacy continue for years to come.

Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin also spoke about the significance of reaching $30 billion in funds raised for education. She credited this achievement to the unwavering support from players, retailers, vendor partners, and stakeholders throughout the state. Corbin also thanked Governor Kemp, members of the Georgia General Assembly, and their Board of Directors for their leadership in fulfilling their mission to maximize revenues for education.
The most recent quarterly transfer of $414.8 million to the State Treasury's Lottery for Education account has brought the total amount raised for education to $30.2 billion. It is worth noting that all profits from the Georgia Lottery are dedicated to specific educational programs such as HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs. As a result, more than 2.25 million students have received a HOPE scholarship, and over 2.2 million four-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
The Georgia Lottery's success in raising funds for education is a testament to its commitment to improving the lives of students, families, and communities across the state. With this milestone, it is evident that the Georgia Lottery will continue to play a crucial role in providing access to quality education for future generations.
