TelAve News/10875833
~ Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of Jerome Greener as the Director of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO). The office was established to identify and eliminate unnecessary regulations in state agencies and develop best practices for reducing regulatory burdens on Texans.

In a statement, Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of a government that protects individual liberty and promotes economic opportunity. He believes that through TREO, red tape can be cut, regulations streamlined, and the growth of the administrative state can be checked to maintain Texas as the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

Jerome Greener, currently serving as Executive Vice President of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, has been chosen to lead TREO. Prior to joining the Foundation in November 2020, Greener held positions as State Director for Americans for Prosperity and Senior Advisor for Americans for Prosperity Action. He holds degrees in Politics and Business Administration from the University of Dallas.

The establishment of TREO was made possible by Senate Bill 14, which was signed into law by Governor Abbott in April. The legislation tasks TREO with assisting state agencies in identifying and repealing unnecessary or ineffective rules, determining the costs imposed on the public by regulations, and issuing guidelines for how agencies adopt new rules and conduct required analyses such as cost and employment impact statements.

Furthermore, under this legislation, the Department of Information Resources will collaborate with the Secretary of State and TREO to create a user-friendly website where Texans can easily search state rules, understand their subject matter, and identify which activities or businesses are regulated.

With Greener at its helm and a clear mandate from Governor Abbott's administration, TREO is poised to make significant strides in easing regulatory burdens on Texans while making government more efficient and accountable.
