Springfield: Walnut Street open after bridge replacement
TelAve News/10880852
~ Springfield Public Works has announced the successful completion of the Walnut Street Bridge replacement project, which began in March. The bridge, located just east of Kansas Expressway, has been reopened to the public, restoring a crucial connection into the West Central Neighborhood and Downtown Springfield.
The decision to replace the bridge was prompted by condition inspections conducted by MoDOT. The aging structure was deemed unsafe and needed to be replaced in order to improve safety, traffic flow, and flood capacity along Jordan Creek. In addition to the new bridge, a multi-use path has been added both on and beneath the structure. This expansion of Springfield's trail network will create an important link for future trail connections.
