Tacoma: At-Large City Council Member Olgy Diaz Hosts 'Bridging the Gap: Local Solutions in the Federal Landscape' on December 6

~ Tacoma, WA- On December 6, 2025, At-Large City Council Member Olgy Diaz will be hosting an in-person event titled "Bridging the Gap: Local Solutions in the Federal Landscape" at the Tacoma Little Theatre. The event will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. and aims to address the impact of national issues on the local community.
According to Council Member Diaz, recent events such as the federal government shutdown and harsh immigration enforcement have had a significant impact on Tacoma residents. As a result, there is a growing demand for action from local officials. The event will serve as a platform for community members to engage in a conversation with local leaders and organizers about potential solutions at the local level.
The event will feature several speakers, including Emergency Food Network CEO Michelle Douglas, Tacoma Housing Authority Executive Director April Black, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department Director Chantell Harmon Reed, and Tacoma School Board Member Lisa Keating. These leaders will share their insights on how to navigate an uncertain federal landscape and take action within the community.

Community members are encouraged to register in advance through tinyurl.com/DiazEvent and inform the City of Tacoma if they require any accommodations. The City is committed to hosting inclusive and accessible events that allow all individuals, including those with disabilities, to fully participate.
In addition to attending the event, guests are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for those in need. A food drive for the Emergency Food Network will be set up in the lobby of the theatre upon arrival. Items such as peanut butter, canned stews and meats, infant formula, baby food, diapers, canned fruits and vegetables are especially needed.
For any questions regarding this event, community members can contact Senior Policy Analyst Lynda Foster at lfoster@tacoma.gov. This event serves as an opportunity for residents of Tacoma to come together and find ways to address national issues at the local level.
