Texas: Governor Abbott Announces Latest Slate Of Appointments

~ This week, Governor Greg Abbott announced his selection of multiple qualified candidates to serve on various councils and boards on behalf of the state of Texas. These appointments reflect the governor's commitment to ensuring that the needs and interests of Texans are represented in important decision-making processes.
One of the appointments made by Governor Abbott was that of Trevor Stokes to the Advisory Council on Emergency Medical Services. Stokes will serve a term set to expire on January 1, 2032. The council is responsible for providing recommendations to the Texas Department of State Health Services on rules and policies related to emergency medical services, including those for trauma facilities and registry monitoring.
In addition, Joyce Wilson was reappointed by Governor Abbott to the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (RMA). Wilson's term will expire on February 1, 2027. The RMA is a political subdivision that works with local transportation planning and project delivery leaders to partner with the state in delivering transportation infrastructure projects for the El Paso region.
Governor Abbott also made appointments to the Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force, which coordinates implementation of the state's plan for prevention, early screening, diagnosis, and management of chronic kidney disease. Christine Burgess, M.D., Ajay Israni, M.D., Matthew T. Smith, M.D., and Donald Wesson, M.D. were all appointed by Governor Abbott for terms set at his pleasure.

Amber Cardenas was appointed by Governor Abbott to serve on the Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome Advisory Council for a term set to expire on August 31, 2027. This council advises both the commission and legislature on research, diagnosis, treatment, and education related to pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome.
Kathy Comer was named Chair of the Texas Council on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders by Governor Abbott for a term set at his pleasure. The council facilitates coordination of state services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders.
Jay Bueche was appointed by Governor Abbott to the Texas Pharmaceutical Initiative Governing Board for a term set to expire on February 1, 2031. This board is responsible for developing a business plan to provide cost-effective drugs and medical supplies for the public employee sector.
Governor Abbott also made appointments to the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners, reappointing T. "Justin" MacDonald for a term set to expire on September 5, 2031. MacDonald was also named Chair of the board, which licenses master plumbers, journeymen, plumbers, and plumbing inspectors.

Baishali Roy, Ph.D. was appointed by Governor Abbott to serve on the TexNet Technical Advisory Committee for a term set at his pleasure. This committee advises the Bureau of Economic Geology on funding usage and collaborative research relationships with other universities in Texas.
In addition to these appointments, Governor Abbott also named Lisa Cantu, Joseph Carter, Elizabeth Diaz Arreola, Rachel McLelland, Jenna Crocker, Ronald Makumbi, and Jeremiah Clarke as student regents to their respective universities. These appointments will be effective June 1, 2026 and will expire on May 31, 2027. Eli Heath was also appointed as student representative to serve on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for a term set to expire on May 31, 2027.
Finally, Governor Abbott reappointed Nancy Blackwell P.E., Fred Hernandez Jr., and Mason Vaughan to the Upper Colorado River Authority Board of Directors for terms set to expire on February 1, 2031.
