VENTURA, Calif. - TelAve -- The 13th Annual Ventura County Farm Day drew over 7,300 visitors to 18 local farms, ranches and agricultural venues across Ventura County. The number of visitors for the April 11 event was the largest since the annual event began.
Almost 10,000 vegetable seedlings donated by Plantel Nurseries were distributed at Duda Farms and Petty Ranch, two participating farms.
Other giveaways included bags of potting soil from Agromin, dragon fruit cuttings from Shulman Dragon Fruit Orchard, berries from Driscoll's, daylilies from Greenwood Daylily Gardens and more. Attendees had free opportunities to learn about and experience everything from local honey production and the importance of native pollinators to the history and future of farming on the Oxnard plain.

"Visitors can use the growing tips they received during Farm Day and immediately apply what they learned to their own gardens and lives," says Caitlin Paulus Case, executive director of Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG), the nonprofit that puts on Farm Day.
Ventura County Farm Day had traditionally been held in November but was moved to April this year. "We wanted visitors to experience local farms in Spring, when the hillsides are teeming with life and biodiversity, vegetables of all kinds are growing strong, and flowers are in full bloom," says Case.
For those who missed Ventura County Farm Day, SEEAG holds "Farm Day Every Day" events at farms throughout the year in both Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. To check for upcoming dates and locations, go to https://www.seeag.org/farm-day-every-day.
