WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - TelAve -- The Daggett Shuler Safe Sober program is pleased to announce that Christopher Pegelow, a junior at Career Center High and Carver High, has won the 2025 Safe Sober T-Shirt Design Contest.
The winning design was unveiled at a surprise presentation at Career Center High. Christopher was presented with the first T-shirt from the press, framed for display. Honored guests joining attorneys David Daggett and Griff Shuler included Winston-Salem Mayor, Allen Joines, members of the Winston-Salem Police Department's Community Resource Unit, members of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department, the Executive Director of the William G. White, Jr. YMCA, Richard Daniels as well as other local dignitaries and media.
Christopher will use his prize of $1000 in scholarship money to support his future academic studies. Safe Sober also honored his teacher with a matching $1000 grant. Christopher's digital media arts teacher, Ms. Sydni Bibb, will use the grant money for supplies for her classroom to ensure that her students have all the tools they need to succeed in class into the future.

Safe Sober is a non-profit organization co-founded in 1991 by David Daggett of Daggett Shuler, Attorneys at Law, originally known as Safe Sober Prom Night. "The goal of Safe Sober is to provide ongoing awareness of the dangers of drugs and alcohol and to encourage positive peer pressure to reduce underage drinking and drug use," explains Griff Shuler.
Now celebrating its 35th year and still expanding, Safe Sober encourages high school students to make the most of their young lives throughout their high school experience. The program is active across the greater Triad region of North Carolina. To date, more than 600,000 students have made "The Right Choice!" pledge and have been positively influenced by the Safe Sober program.
As part of the Safe Sober program, Triad students submit their own designs for consideration to be printed on the front of thousands of T-shirts. These T-shirts are given to area high school and middle school students as well distributed throughout the community. The winner of the T-shirt design contest receives a $1,000 scholarship, and their name is printed on the back of more than 15,000 T-shirts. Schools have historically incorporated these T-shirts into their prom and graduation festivities to encourage students to be safe and sober through positive peer pressure during this active spring season.
