Applicants Sought for the Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities

~ The Tacoma City Council is currently on the lookout for individuals to join the Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities. The commission has six open positions, including five member positions and one emerging leader position for individuals between the ages of 16 and 24.

Comprised of 11 volunteers from Tacoma and Pierce County, the Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities brings together a diverse group of individuals with various experiences and expertise. Their main role is to advise the City Council in policy making and work with the community to raise awareness about issues affecting people with disabilities. Additionally, commission members serve on committees, educate the public about disability issues, and act as a resource for City staff.

In line with their commitment to promoting equity and anti-racism, the City of Tacoma encourages individuals from all backgrounds to apply for these vacancies. This includes BIPOC individuals, LGBTQ+ individuals, those with disabilities, seniors, youth, immigrants, and refugees.

Applicants who are appointed will be required to complete training on Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment. This training will be provided by the Washington State Office of the Attorney General.
