Lightning Water believes part of the solution may be found in one of nature's oldest processes. The company's technology is based on plasma-activated water, inspired by the natural reactions that occur during lightning storms. By creating a controlled version of this process, Lightning Water is evaluating how plasma-activated water can support healthier growing environments and improve agricultural efficiency.

Published research on plasma-activated water and related plasma-based water treatment systems has demonstrated activity against several foodborne pathogens, including Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella species, and Campylobacter species. Researchers have also reported potential applications for produce washing, irrigation, equipment sanitation, and post-harvest handling, although additional validation under commercial growing conditions is needed.
