~ At 2:30PM on 12/08/2023, SPD South Precinct and Downtown Precinct Units responded to a auto-pedestrian collision at 4th and Maple. Lt. Terry Preuninger reported that the pedestrian suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. According to witness accounts, the pedestrian was crossing the road in violation of traffic laws. Traffic in the immediate area was impacted with roads shut down for several hours, but have since reopened. SPD Major Crimes Traffic Investigators are continuing their investigation into the incident. Preliminary information suggests that impairment or speed were not factors in the collision.
