Bat Cave Flooding and Hurricane Helene Trauma Subject Matter Expert, Emma M. Churchman Offers Guidance for Communities in Crisis
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - TelAve -- Emma M. Churchman, trauma specialist and author of The Deep End of Hope, is available for interviews on disaster trauma, community resilience, and Western North Carolina flood recover.
As Bat Cave, Gerton, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, and surrounding Western North Carolina communities face renewed flooding, trauma specialist and author Emma M. Churchman is speaking to the deeper impact of disaster: what happens to people, families, and communities after the water recedes.
Recent reports describe flash flooding, road damage, water rescues, and renewed concerns across parts of Western North Carolina still recovering from Hurricane Helene. Flooding has affected communities including Bat Cave, Gerton, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, Henderson County, Buncombe County, and Rutherford County, reopening fear and uncertainty for residents who are still rebuilding.

Churchman, who lives and works in Western North Carolina, supported her own community in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Her book, The Deep End of Hope in the Wake of Hurricane Helene: 40 Days and Nights of Survival and Transformation, grew out of that lived experience as a firsthand account of trauma, survival, spiritual resilience, and the long work of communal healing.
"Flooding does not end when the rain stops," said Michelle Vandepas, publisher at GracePoint Publishing. "Emma understands the emotional and spiritual aftermath of disaster because she has lived it, worked through it, and helped others through it. Her voice is especially important right now as these same communities face renewed fear and disruption."
As a trauma specialist, Churchman brings both professional expertise and personal proximity to the crisis. Her work explores how disaster affects the nervous system, how communities can support one another without bypassing grief, and how people can begin to rebuild after overwhelming loss.
Emma M. Churchman is available for podcast, radio, television, print, and online interviews regarding Bat Cave flooding, Hurricane Helene recovery, disaster trauma, and the emotional impact of repeated natural disasters.
