Bloomington: BioBlitz, Bee City USA Events Mark National Pollinator Week

TelAve News/10898898
Bloomington, Ind. ~ Bloomington, Ind.- The city of Bloomington is buzzing with excitement as the Bee City USA Bloomington committee, in collaboration with Parks and Recreation, gears up to celebrate National Pollinator Week this month. The committee has planned a series of events including programs, presentations, and a BioBlitz volunteer event to collect data on pollinators and plants in Bloomington and its surrounding areas.

The BioBlitz, which will be hosted by Parks and Recreation, is set to take place from June 21st to 28th. To participate in this event, individuals can download the free iNaturalist app and register for the BioBlitz. By taking a picture of a pollinator (such as bees, butterflies, or hummingbirds) or plant using the app, participants can contribute to the online community's efforts in identifying different species. These observations will also support data-driven land management decisions throughout Bloomington and its surrounding areas.

Bloomington was designated as a Bee City USA affiliate by the Xerces Society in 2025. This program provides a framework for communities to work together towards conserving native pollinators by increasing the abundance of native plants, providing nest sites, and reducing the use of pesticides.
