Bloomington: City Seeks Public Feedback on ADA Transition Plan

TelAve News/10894602
~ The City of Bloomington Council for Community Accessibility (CCA) is urging residents to take part in reviewing and providing feedback on its ADA Transition Plan. This document identifies accessibility barriers in City facilities, programs, services, and activities and outlines steps to address them. The plan can be accessed at bloomington.in.gov/accessible, and community members are encouraged to share their thoughts and suggestions at bton.in/26ADA until May 22, 2026.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed on July 26, 1990, with an amendment taking effect on January 1, 2009. Under Title II of the ADA, state and local governments are prohibited from discriminating against individuals based on their disability. They are also required to ensure that people with disabilities have equal access to government programs, services, and activities.

To comply with Title II of the ADA, local governments must develop Transition Plans that identify any barriers to accessibility in government facilities and outline strategies to make them accessible. The City of Bloomington first created its ADA Transition Plan in 1990 and has since updated it periodically. The most recent update was completed in 2024 and is now available online at bloomington.in.gov/accessible for public review.
