The resident ~ The Annual Commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, organized by the resident-led Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission, has announced a change in its event time. The celebration, which is set to take place on Monday, January 19, will now be held from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on 114 E. Kirkwood Avenue.

This change was made to accommodate community members who also wish to watch the Indiana Hoosiers in the College Football Playoff National Championship. The event remains free and open to the public.

Despite the change in time, all other details of the program will remain unchanged. This year's commemoration will focus on honoring the contributions of women in the civil rights movement with the theme "Soul, Spirit & Sacrifice: Honoring the Legacy of Coretta Scott King and the Women Who Faced America to Save U.S." The event will feature a keynote speech by Dr. Traci Parker, musical performances, and the presentation of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award.
