Bloomington: Mills Pool Opens June 19 Following Spring Repairs
TelAve News/10899023
Bloomington, Ind. ~ Bloomington's Parks and Recreation department has announced the opening of Mills Pool, located at 1100 W. 14th St., on June 19. This comes after the discovery of a significant leak during preseason preparations, which required repairs to be made in order for the pool to operate safely through the 2026 season.
According to Tim Street, Director of Parks and Recreation, the repairs completed this spring have addressed the immediate concerns that prevented the pool from opening. However, he cautions that there are still underlying issues with the facility that need to be fully resolved.
The leak was discovered while staff was filling the pool for the season. Due to much of the plumbing system being located beneath the pool deck, Parks and Recreation enlisted a leak detection firm to identify and isolate the source of the problem. While these repairs have allowed for the pool to open this summer, further investigation and construction work will be necessary after it closes for the season.
In order to determine the scope of long-term repairs and future capital needs, a comprehensive assessment of Mills Pool's infrastructure is expected to take place this fall. Street acknowledges that this delayed opening may have been frustrating for swimmers, families, and neighborhood residents who were looking forward to using Mills Pool. He expresses gratitude for their patience while staff worked diligently to identify and fix the issue.
