Bloomington: Tuesday Market Highlights Continued Activation at Hopewell Commons
TelAve News/10897358
Bloomington, Ind. ~ Bloomington, Ind.- The Bloomington Community Farmers' Market is set to return to Hopewell Commons on June 2nd, creating a weekly gathering space for the community. Located at 630 S. Morton St., the Tuesday Market will run from 4pm until 7pm and offer a variety of local products, live music, and opportunities for neighbors to connect with the people who grow and prepare their food.
This weekday edition of the market is just one of the regular public uses planned for Hopewell Commons as part of the city's ongoing redevelopment work in the Hopewell neighborhood. The space has been enhanced with a stage for live music, easy access via the B-Line Trail for pedestrians and cyclists, pickleball courts and ping pong tables, and ample seating for neighborhood gatherings.
The first phase of housing in this redevelopment project, known as Hopewell South, is also making progress. With unanimous approval from both the City of Bloomington Plan Commission and Common Council, construction on the first 98 homes is expected to begin in the coming months. Additionally, the Kohr Building, a former hospital being converted into 38 income-restricted rental homes by the City and Bloomington Housing Authority, is set to open this summer.

The Tuesday Market at Hopewell Commons will feature local farm vendors offering fresh produce, meat, eggs, flowers, baked goods, and other locally grown and made products throughout the summer. There will also be prepared food vendors serving ready-to-eat meals made with local ingredients. Admission to the market is free and visitors can find directions and more information on their website.
One of the main goals of Tuesday Market is to make fresh, local food more accessible to all members of the community. To achieve this goal, they will continue to double Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. For every $3 in SNAP benefits spent at the market, shoppers will receive $6 in Market Bucks that can be used to purchase SNAP-eligible products from farm vendors. More information on how to redeem SNAP benefits and double Market Bucks can be found on their website.
In addition to shopping, visitors can also enjoy live local music during Tuesday Tunes at Hopewell Commons. This is part of the summer Performing Arts Series, which offers free music in City parks. The first performance will be by Don't Call Me Betty, a retro rock 'n roll band, from 5pm until 6:30pm on June 2nd. A schedule for future Tuesday Tunes performances can be found on their website.
