Boston: April 3, 2026 Traffic Advisory
TelAve News/10892666
~ Boston, MA - As the city prepares for two major events this weekend, residents and visitors are being encouraged to utilize alternative modes of transportation. The annual Greek Independence Day Parade, scheduled for Sunday, April 26th, and the closure of the Canterbury Street Bridge in Roslindale on Friday, September 12th, will both impact traffic in the area.
For those attending the Greek Independence Day Parade, which will begin at 1pm on Sunday, April 26th, organizers are urging attendees to walk, bike or take public transit. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, can be found on their website. Additionally, information on the MBTA can be found online. The MBTA is advising riders to purchase round-trip tickets for a faster return trip.
The parade route will remain the same as previous years and will start on Boylston Street before turning left onto Charles Street and ending at Boston Common. In preparation for the event, parking restrictions will be in effect throughout Sunday on Boylston Street from Massachusetts Avenue to Tremont Street and Charles Street South from Park Plaza to Boylston Street. On Beacon Street, parking will be restricted on the south side (Public Garden side) from Charles Street to Arlington Street.

In Roslindale, drivers should expect delays and plan accordingly as the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12th until further notice. The closure comes after a recent bridge inspection revealed necessary repairs. Pedestrian access will still be available but drivers are advised to follow detour signage in place.
The primary detour route for drivers will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue and Seymour Street. Eastbound traffic should follow Seymour Street to Brown Avenue to Cummins Highway while westbound traffic should take Hyde Park Avenue to Cummins Highway before turning onto Rowe Street and then Seymour Street.
Drivers are reminded to reduce speed, use caution and expect delays when traveling through the affected areas. By utilizing alternative modes of transportation and following detour routes, residents and visitors can help minimize traffic disruptions during these events.
