Boston: Council Opposes Use of Charlestown for Everett Stadium Event Parking
TelAve News/10895087
~ In a recent resolution offered by Councilor Coletta Zapata, the City of Boston has officially expressed its opposition to the use of Charlestown for event parking at the proposed Everett Stadium. The resolution, which was presented at a city council meeting, highlights concerns raised by Charlestown residents about potential traffic and parking impacts.
The proposed professional soccer and event stadium in Everett has been a topic of discussion for some time now. Project representatives had previously presented a conceptual parking plan that included multiple parking zones, including areas within Charlestown. However, the City's agreement with the project includes measures to mitigate transportation and traffic issues, as well as protect the neighborhood.

One of these measures is the required Event Transportation and Parking Management Plan, which aims to minimize vehicle traffic impacts on Charlestown. This plan includes monitoring congestion at key intersections, limiting non-resident parking on City streets during events, and conducting ongoing reviews of event operations.
The resolution emphasizes that the project was initially presented as transit-oriented, with an expectation of minimizing reliance on personal vehicles. Any proposal to use Charlestown as a parking zone would be inconsistent with this agreement and prior commitments made by the project.
As such, the resolution urges relevant City agencies to reject any proposal or modification that would direct stadium-related parking or traffic into Charlestown. Councilor Zapata hopes that this resolution will ensure that Charlestown residents' concerns are taken into consideration when making decisions about event parking for the proposed stadium.
