Boston: Introducing the 2025 Fine Arts Work Center Scholarship Recipients

~ Provincetown, MA- Each summer, the Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) hosts a series of intensive workshops for artists and writers. These workshops are taught by award-winning professionals who are leaders in their respective fields. Through focused time, expert guidance, and an inspiring community, attendees are equipped with the tools they need to advance their creative work.

This year, the FAWC has partnered with a number of organizations to ensure that writers in Boston have the opportunity to participate in these workshops. As part of this partnership, six emerging Boston-based writers have been awarded scholarships to attend the workshops. These scholarships cover tuition, lodging, and also provide a stipend for travel and food.

The recipients of these scholarships are Dana Alsamsam, Prema Bangera, Mollie O'Leary, Oisín Rowe, Annaka Saari, and Alli Tervo. Each writer brings a unique perspective and voice to their work.

Dana Alsamsam is a first-generation Syrian-American language and movement artist currently based in Boston. She has received fellowships and scholarships from prestigious institutions such as Emerson College, Lambda Literary, Breadloaf Writers Conference, and Somerville Arts Council. Her poems have been published or are forthcoming in various literary journals including The Georgia Review, The Massachusetts Review, Poetry Daily, North American Review, Mizna, The Common and more.

Prema Bangera identifies as neurodivergent queer immigrant of color. They are a multidisciplinary artist who also works as a community organizer and cultural worker. Their writing and artwork have been featured in various publications and showcased at Boston City Hall. Bangera is also the founder of BIPoC Ancestral Love as Arts (BALA), a grassroots consulting organization aimed at uplifting QTDBIPoC community members.

Mollie O'Leary is a poet from Massachusetts who holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Washington. Their chapbook, The Forgetting Curve, was selected for publication in 2023 through Poetry Online's chapbook contest. O'Leary's poetry has been featured in McNeese Review, Chestnut Review, wildness and other publications.

Oisín Rowe is a trans and disabled writer, editor, and poet. They were born in Belfast, Ireland and raised in Boston, MA. Their work has been published in Black Fox Literary Magazine, Massachusetts Review, WBUR and more.

Annaka Saari is a writer from Michigan who recently received her MFA from Boston University's Creative Writing Program. She now serves as the program's administrative coordinator. Her work has been published by The Southern Review, Pleiades, The Missouri Review, The Maine Review, Image, Cleveland Review of Books and other publications.

Alli Tervo is a multidisciplinary poet and artivist whose work has been featured by GBH Media and displayed at Boston City Hall. Her poetry has also been published in Palette Poetry and the Yellow Arrow Journal. Tervo believes that language is a radical method of love and healing and draws inspiration from the artists around her.
