Boston: Mayor Michelle Wu Announces 2026 Open Streets Schedule
TelAve News/10896766
~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced the return of the highly anticipated 2026 Open Streets Series. This car-free event series, now in its fifth year, transforms roadways into vibrant, pedestrian-only public spaces during the summer and fall. The series will once again bring together communities in Allston-Brighton, Jamaica Plain, and Mattapan, as well as expanding to include Corinth and Poplar Streets in Roslindale for the first time on October 18.
According to Mayor Wu, the warmer months provide the perfect backdrop for the Open Streets season. She believes that opening up urban infrastructure as a welcoming and exciting space allows families to play safely, residents to connect, and local businesses to bring the neighborhood experience to life. "I'm excited to welcome back this beloved tradition to our city," she said.
Open Streets events allow local businesses to expand into the street and safely make space for music, games, bicycling, and community tabling in Boston's neighborhoods. This reflects Mayor Wu's vision of Boston as a home for everyone. The events will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with streets closed to vehicular traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Parking will also be prohibited along the route from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
