TelAve News/10880668
~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced her upcoming visit to Nova Scotia, Canada from Sunday, November 9th to Wednesday, November 12th. The purpose of the trip is to strengthen the partnership between the City of Boston and Province of Nova Scotia, which was formed after the tragic explosion in Halifax Harbor in 1917.

The annual tradition of Nova Scotia providing Boston with its Christmas tree for the Boston Common as a thank you for sending medical aid and relief supplies following the explosion will be highlighted during Mayor Wu's visit. She will be the first Boston Mayor to attend and participate in the Tree for Boston tree cutting ceremony in Nova Scotia.

Expressing her gratitude for the longstanding bond between Boston and Nova Scotia, Mayor Wu stated, "For well over a century, Boston and Nova Scotia have shared a special bond of neighborly care and friendship. I am honored to visit our neighbors to the north for the first time and personally thank them on behalf of the people of Boston for continuing this partnership that transcends boundaries and generations."

During her time in Nova Scotia, Mayor Wu will meet with Canadian officials and leaders to explore opportunities for economic collaboration with Boston. On Monday, she will tour Port Innovation, Engagement and Research (PIER) with leadership from the Halifax Port Authority. PIER is Canada's first living lab dedicated to transportation, supply chain, and logistics industries. She will also visit the Health Innovation Hub, a center for healthcare research and innovation.

Mayor Wu will also meet with Halifax Mayor Andy Filmore to exchange gifts and emphasize the importance of maintaining a strong diplomatic relationship between their cities.

The highlight of Mayor Wu's trip will be her participation in the Tree for Boston tree cutting ceremony on Wednesday. This year's historic tree is a 45-foot-tall white spruce from Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. The public is invited to join in welcoming its arrival at Boston Common on Tuesday, November 18th at 11:00 a.m. with candy canes and a special appearance by Santa.

Mayor Wu will return to Boston on Wednesday, November 12th, after a successful visit to Nova Scotia. The City of Boston is grateful for the continued partnership and friendship with Nova Scotia, which has stood strong for over a century.
