California Film & TV Tax Credit powers 55 major award wins during Governor Newsom's Administration
What you need to know: Productions supported by California's Film and Television Tax Credit Program have earned 55 major entertainment awards and generated $1.9 billion in economic activity, since the start of the Newsom Administration, reinforcing the state's status as a premier destination for film and television production.
SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today highlighted 19 California-supported productions that captured 55 major entertainment awards since 2019, reflecting an era of creative excellence powered by the state's Film and Television Tax Credit Program. From groundbreaking series to award-winning films, California continues to lead the world in storytelling and creative innovation.
California is where world-class storytelling meets opportunity. These award-winning productions are not only cultural milestones but represent thousands of jobs, billions in economic impact and a continued commitment to keeping the Golden State's entertainment industry thriving.
Governor Gavin Newsom
Together, these projects generated $1.9 billion in total economic spend across the Golden State, with $1.23 billion in qualified expenditures, which included $653 million in qualified wages. These projects employed 4,400 cast and 4,800 crew members, along with 118,000 background players (measured in days worked), and accounted for more than 2,060 filming days statewide, a major boost to local economies up and down California.
Awards, dreams, talent, all in the Golden State
Among the award-winning projects is Parallax's The Pitt Season 3, which will continue filming in California after recently securing a tax credit. The series has garnered major acclaim, with Emmy wins for Outstanding Lead Actor and Supporting Actress and top honors for Best Drama and Ensemble across the Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards and more.
Season 1 of Apple TV+'s The Studio led the 2025 Emmy Awards with 13 wins, becoming the most-winning freshman comedy series in Emmy history and tying the record for the most Emmys won by a comedy series in one night. Season 2 will continue filming in California after joining the tax credit program in August 2025.
HBO's Euphoria also earned critical acclaim at the Emmys, with Zendaya making history as the youngest-ever winner for Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2020 and becoming the youngest two-time winner in the category in 2022.
A24's Everything Everywhere All at Once dazzled throughout the 2023 awards season, dominating in every universe. It won two Golden Globes and seven Academy Awards, including the first Oscar for recent California Hall of Fame inductee Jamie Lee Curtis. Michelle Yeoh also made history as the first Asian actress/actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actress.

About California's Film & Television Tax Credit Program
The California Film Commission (CFC) administers the Film & Television Tax Credit Program. Earlier this year, the Governor more than doubled California's Film and Television Tax Credit program — from $330 million to $750 million — and implemented key updates to keep production, below-the-line jobs, and investment rooted in California.
Since its inception in 2009, California's Film & Television Tax Credit Program has generated over $30.6 billion in economic activity and supported more than 228,000 cast and crew jobs statewide. Every $1 in credits has historically returned $24.40 in output, $16.14 in GDP, and $8.60 in wages.
Now expanded into one of the nation's largest capped incentives, the program strengthens California's creative economy while advancing workforce diversity, boosting funding for the Career Pathways Training Program, and leading with the country's first Safety on Production Pilot Program.
