LONDON - TelAve -- At British Art Fair, Transylvanian Surrealist Cristina Schek returns to DIGITALISM, curated by Rebekah Tolley, at Saatchi Gallery with Kindred Spirits, a new presentation focusing on animals, plants, pearls and the occasional unidentified object in the sky.

There are almost no humans here. Instead, cats occupy windows and sofas, dogs wait beneath strange celestial events and plants have begun borrowing our clothes, jewellery and manners. A pea pod wears a gentleman's tie. Dandelions acquire pearls. A cherry branch dresses for the occasion.

Schek describes these inhabitants as "another species of imagination": beings in whom we recognise something of ourselves without requiring them to become human.

Made through photography and digital construction, the works are nevertheless preoccupied with something ancient: inheritance, instinct, companionship and the increasingly uncertain boundary between ourselves and the natural world.

"However sophisticated the machinery becomes, we are still creatures with ancient instincts, inherited traits, appetites and attachments," says Schek. "Perhaps imagination belongs to another species, too."

Schek has a second presence at British Art Fair with Cynthia Corbett Gallery at Stand 18, where her mother gallery presents recent works alongside pieces created especially for the fair.

At the heart of this presentation is Fern Girl, arriving at Saatchi Gallery only days after being unveiled as a monumental 4 × 4 metre public artwork on the W4th Plinth in Chiswick, curated by Abundance London and unveiled by Cynthia Valianti Corbett, Founder and Director of the Cynthia Corbett Gallery and Young Masters Art Prize.

Alongside Fern Girl are works developed through Schek's 2026 exhibition Line of Beauty and new works from her Diving Upwards series. Across them, bodies levitate, nature enters the human figure and gravity becomes increasingly unreliable.

Together, the two presentations offer different entrances into the same artistic world: upstairs, cats, dogs and botanical aristocrats populate Kindred Spirits; downstairs, levitating bodies, metamorphosis and Fern Girl continue Schek's longstanding fascination with transformation and the refusal of ordinary logic.
