Celebrate the Annual Preakness Stakes With the Maryland Horse Farm Tour

ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 4, 2026) ~ Annapolis, MD - As the annual Preakness Stakes approaches, Marylanders and visitors are invited to get an up-close look at one of the state's most beloved traditions. On Sunday, May 10, 2026, as part of the Preakness Festival, select horse farms across Maryland will open their doors to provide a behind-the-scenes experience of where some of the state's current and future champion equestrians are born and raised.

The Maryland Department of Agriculture's Maryland Horse Industry Board is extending an invitation to fans and visitors of the state's deep-rooted horse racing tradition for a free, self-guided tour from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on May 10th. While the tour is free to attend, advance registration is required in order to visit the farms. A digital program will be available featuring the participating horse farms and a curated list of local agribusinesses nearby.

During the tour, guests will have the opportunity to stroll through some of Maryland's most scenic horse farms and witness mares and foals in their natural setting. They will also have the chance to learn firsthand about the breeding, care, and training that goes into producing elite equine athletes. This unique experience highlights Maryland's rich equestrian heritage and showcases the vital role that the horse industry plays in the state's economy.

The tour promises an exciting opportunity for visitors to see mares and foals roaming freely against a backdrop of picturesque farms while gaining insight into breeding and training programs for some of racing's top competitors.

After exploring the farms, guests are encouraged to continue their day by visiting "Maryland's Best" - a program that promotes local farm stands, wineries, and other agri-businesses in close proximity.

The Maryland Horse Farm Tour is presented in partnership with various organizations including the Maryland Horse Breeders Association, Maryland Racing Commission, Maryland Million Ltd., Rosecroft Raceway, Cloverleaf Standardbred Owner's Association, Maryland Department of Labor, Maryland Department of Agriculture, and the Maryland Horse Industry Board.
