City of Bloomington Partners with United Way of South Central Indiana to Offer Free Community Tax Service for 2026

~ Bloomington City Hall is now offering free tax preparation services to eligible residents in partnership with United Way of South Central Indiana. The program, known as the Free Community Tax Service, aims to provide professional tax assistance at no cost to individuals and families across Monroe, Brown, and Owen counties during the 2026 tax season.

Led by United Way of South Central Indiana and supported by a network of local agencies, the Free Community Tax Service is available every Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Bloomington City Hall located at 501 North Morton Street. This evening access allows working individuals and families to take advantage of the service.

In addition to tax preparation services, this year's program has a new feature - Indiana Legal Services will be available onsite for consultations. This includes assistance with prior-year tax issues, providing even more support for taxpayers.

According to Shatoyia Moss, Community and Family Resources Director, access to free and reliable tax preparation services is crucial for financial stability. She also emphasized the City's commitment to reducing barriers and ensuring that residents can keep more of their hard-earned money through strong partnerships.

The Free Community Tax Service is open to individuals and families earning $67,000 or less and is delivered by IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers. Appointments are required at most locations and can be scheduled by calling 812-349-3430 for English or 812-349-3860 for Spanish. More information can also be found on unitedwaysci.org/FreeTaxes.
