City of Evansville Secures Community Crossings Matching Grant Funding, Announces Upcoming Road Paving Projects
TelAve News/10897194
Evansville, Ind. ~ The City of Evansville has announced its plans for upcoming road improvements, totaling an estimated $3 million in roadway upgrades. This announcement comes after the city secured funding from the State of Indiana through the Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) program.
According to Mayor Stephanie Terry, these improvements are much needed in Evansville. Despite not receiving CCMG funding during the previous grant cycle, the city was able to recover those dollars and add an additional $400,000 to complete more projects this year. This funding will come from a combination of sources including the grant award, city wheel tax revenue, ARPA interest earnings, and the Pavement Preservation Fund.
The opportunity for this grant funding was made possible through Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 179-2026, which provided additional CCMG funding for local units that did not receive awards in the previous cycle. Evansville was among the eligible communities for this additional allocation.

The Metropolitan Planning Organization evaluates and scores every roadway in Evansville every three to five years based on its condition. This data is then used by the City Engineer's Office, along with other factors such as traffic volume and speed limits, to determine the annual paving schedule. This data-driven approach ensures that road improvements are prioritized where they are most needed.
In the next 30 days, milling and resurfacing work will begin on several roads across the city including Washington Avenue, Division Street, Vann Avenue, Sycamore Street, and Governor Street. Later in July, bids will be received for additional paving projects on Cherry Street and Eagle Crest Blvd.
In addition to these projects, cape seal preservation work will also take place on Old Boonville Highway, Stringtown Road, and Harmony Way. City Engineer Brian Mundy emphasizes that while there is still more work ahead, they remain focused on improving road conditions and ensuring safe and reliable roads for the community.
For media inquiries, please contact Anna Raben, Communications Director for the Office of Mayor Stephanie Terry. She can be reached at 812-305-0543 or araben@evansville.in.gov. With these upcoming road improvements, the City of Evansville is committed to making progress and meeting the needs of its residents.
