TelAve News/10853649
Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Economic Development Department is hosting a feasibility meeting to discuss the potential creation of a new business improvement district (BID) for the Wrigley business corridor. The meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Cove Hotel (200 E. Willow St.).

Mayor Rex Richardson emphasized the importance of BIDs in supporting local businesses and enhancing safety and quality of life in the community. He encouraged residents, businesses, and stakeholders to attend the meeting and have their voices heard.

The Wrigley business corridor includes Pacific Avenue from West Willow Street to Pacific Coast Highway, as well as West Willow Street from Golden Avenue to Long Beach Boulevard. This area is known for its diversity, sense of community, and variety of restaurants and locally-owned businesses.

The meeting will be led by Department staff in collaboration with the Wrigley Business Collaborative and Wrigley Association. Attendees can expect an interactive information session and discussion about a feasibility study for the BID. Feedback from this meeting will be used to assess community needs and explore the creation of a new BID for the Wrigley area.

Sixth District Councilwoman Dr. Suely Saro expressed her support for BIDs as valuable assets that provide resources and services to support local businesses and neighborhoods. She believes this effort will bring the Wrigley community together to create a more vibrant, safe, and welcoming space.

Vice Mayor and Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga also praised this collaborative effort as a way to boost investment in the Wrigley area and strengthen community connections. He believes that by supporting local businesses, enhancing safety measures, and beautifying streets, they can make the neighborhood a better place for residents, workers, and visitors.

BIDs are publicly sanctioned organizations that work to supplement public services in business corridors throughout the city. By pooling resources and fostering collaboration, BIDs play a crucial role in revitalizing neighborhoods and advocating for businesses in their district. Currently, there are nine BIDs in Long Beach.

The City of Long Beach supports BIDs as a tool for strengthening small businesses, creating and retaining jobs, improving quality of life, and revitalizing commercial corridors. BIDs are also eligible for grants and support from various public and private resources.
