City of Tacoma Modernizes Access to Municipal Code Online

TelAve News/10894714
~ As of today, navigating the Tacoma Municipal Code (TMC) has become a much simpler task for the community. The City Clerk's Office, which falls under the City Attorney's Office, has officially launched a fully web-based platform to make local laws more accessible. This transition aims to provide an easier and more efficient way for community members to access and understand the TMC.

One of the key features of this new platform is its intuitive search function. Similar to Google, users can now search for specific keywords and the results will be automatically organized to highlight the most relevant information. This will save community members time and effort in finding what they need.

In addition, the platform offers quick navigation through an interactive table of contents that moves with the user and highlights their current location in the text. For those who already know which chapter or section of the TMC they need, they can simply type it into the search bar and be directed straight to that part without having to scroll through pages.

The website also provides access to new laws through visual markers and a dedicated "New Laws" button. This allows community members to stay up-to-date with recently adopted City ordinances that are still waiting to be officially codified into the main text.

Furthermore, users can easily share or save specific parts of the TMC by printing, emailing, or downloading them directly from the site. They can also sign up for notifications whenever there are changes made to a particular section of code.

To ensure accessibility for all members of the community, Google Translate is embedded in the platform and there are readily available how-to guides and training materials.

With these new features in place, navigating through Tacoma's municipal code has become more user-friendly and convenient for everyone. The City Clerk's Office hopes that this transition will encourage more people to engage with local laws and stay informed about any updates or changes.
