Colorado: Federal Government Returns Federal Education Funding For After School Programming
TelAve News/10869635
DENVER - Today, Governor Polis celebrated the release of $1.3 billion of withheld federal education funding for after-school programming.
"I'm grateful this funding is being returned to its rightful place, in our schools, classrooms, and other after-school programs. It should not have been frozen to begin with. Without this funding schools, providers, and families faced devastating uncertainty with the beginning of the school year only weeks away. I continue to call on the Trump Administration to do the right thing, and restore the remaining withheld funding back to our students," said Governor Polis.
Governor Polis has consistently called for the release of these funds, which included nearly $80 million dollars for Colorado. The State filed litigation to challenge the decision to withhold the funds, this week the Governor led an effort with 16 other democratic governors writing a letter demanding the release of these funds, and last week he sat down with education leaders from across Colorado to hear how the federal government withholding this funding was hurting schools, educators, and students.

Governor Polis continues to call on the Trump Administration to release the remaining withheld funds which are important for our schools and students. Without certainty over these funds, schools cannot staff classrooms and educators face uncertainty over if they can continue to support Colorado students.
