DENVER ~ Governor Polis has announced the appointment of Sean J. Lacefield to the 19th Judicial District, effective July 1, 2026. This new judgeship was created by Senate Bill 25-024.

Lacefield brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as a Supervising Deputy State Public Defender in the Appellate Division of the Colorado State Public Defender's Office since 2021. His practice primarily focuses on criminal appeals.

Prior to this position, Lacefield held various roles including Deputy State Public Defender in the Appellate Division of the Colorado State Public Defender's Office from 2019-2021 and 2013-2017, Associate at Berg Hill Greenleaf Ruscitti, LLP from 2017-2019, and Associate and Member at Houtchens Houtchens & Greenfield, LLC from 2004-2013.

Lacefield received his B.A. from the University of Colorado in 2000 and his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law in 2004. With his extensive legal background and dedication to public service, Lacefield is well-equipped to serve as a judge in the 19th Judicial District.
