Colorado: Governor Polis Makes Appointments to the 23rd and 4th Judicial District Courts

DENVER ~ Denver - The Governor of Colorado has announced the appointment of two new judges to the state's judicial system. Donna M. Stewart has been appointed to the 23rd Judicial District Court, while Jennifer A. Viehman will join the 4th Judicial District Court.
The vacancy on the 23rd Judicial District Court was created by the retirement of Honorable Robert Lung and will be effective from October 1, 2025. Similarly, the vacancy on the 4th Judicial District Court was caused by the retirement of Honorable David L. Shakes and will be effective from September 30, 2025.
Donna M. Stewart brings a wealth of experience to her new role as a judge in the 23rd Judicial District Court. She has been serving as a Magistrate in the same district since 2025, handling domestic relations cases. Prior to that, she held various positions including Magistrate in the 18th Judicial District (2020-2025), City Prosecutor for Central City (2018-2019), Relief Prosecutor for the City of Englewood (2018-2019), Public Defender for multiple cities (2010-2019), and also ran her own law firm - Law Office of Donna M. Stewart, LLC (2009-2019). Ms. Stewart earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in 1997 and her Juris Doctorate from University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2001.

Jennifer A. Viehman, who has been appointed to serve as a judge in the 4th Judicial District Court, is currently working as Chief Deputy District Attorney in the same district since 2021. Her expertise lies in criminal prosecution and she has previously served as Senior Deputy District Attorney (2011-2021) and Deputy District Attorney (2004-2011) in the same office. She also worked as a Prosecutor at the Office of the City Attorney in Colorado Springs (2001-2004). Ms. Viehman completed her Bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 1995 and her Juris Doctorate from University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2001.
The appointments of these two highly qualified individuals to the state's judicial system are expected to bring a fresh perspective and valuable expertise to their respective courts. The Governor's decision has been met with positive reactions from legal professionals and citizens alike, who believe that Ms. Stewart and Ms. Viehman will serve with integrity and fairness in their new roles as judges.
