DENVER ~ Denver, CO - In response to the ongoing Sharpe Fire in Baca County, Governor Polis has declared a disaster emergency today. The fire, which has already burned over 28,000 acres, has prompted an evacuation order for the Town of Campos.

This verbal declaration by the governor activates the State Emergency Operations Plan and directs the Department of Public Safety and its Divisions of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) to take charge of all response, recovery, and mitigation efforts for the Sharpe Fire. This includes providing support such as state and interagency engines and handcrews, DFPC and interagency aviation resources, as well as incident management personnel and overhead to assist in managing the fire and containment efforts.

Furthermore, DFPC is also offering administrative and financial oversight to Baca County and the incident. They are also providing intelligence products such as imaging, mapping, and fire behavior modeling to aid in the management of the fire. DHSEM is directly supporting the Baca County Emergency Manager and their emergency operations center with on-site area field managers.

The governor's declaration comes as a crucial step in ensuring that all necessary resources are available to combat the Sharpe Fire. The state agencies involved are working closely together to effectively respond to this disaster.
