Colorado: Results Delivered: General Assembly Adjourns 2026 Legislative Session
TelAve News/10896091
DENVER ~ Denver - As the 2026 Legislative Session came to a close, Governor Jared Polis celebrated the end of his term as governor. During this session, lawmakers tackled some of the most pressing challenges facing the state of Colorado.
One of the major accomplishments of this session was the passing of new laws that will have a significant impact on the lives of Coloradans. The HOME Act, for example, will break down barriers to lower housing costs and create more housing opportunities for first responders to live in the communities they serve. This will not only make housing more affordable but also strengthen community bonds.
Governor Polis expressed his pride in what has been accomplished during his eight years as governor. He thanked legislators from both sides of the aisle for their hard work and dedication in finding solutions to make Colorado the best state in the nation.
The governor highlighted some key areas where progress was made during this legislative session. These include strengthening competency laws to make Colorado safer, protecting education funding in the state budget, and finding innovative ways to save people money.

Some specific laws that were passed include allowing non-profits, schools, and local governments to create housing on underutilized land, expanding home ownership opportunities, and encouraging more housing near transportation options through innovative financing and critical infrastructure investments.
In addition to these measures, there were also laws passed to support job training and higher education opportunities through a unified agency, increase funding for classrooms by implementing a school finance formula, and prohibit out-of-state produce from misusing the Colorado Proud label.
Governor Polis also emphasized his commitment to protecting personal freedom by providing law enforcement with tools to prevent crime through requiring social media companies to quickly respond to warrants. He also mentioned updating the state's competency system to ensure that those who are a danger to themselves or others are not released but provided with necessary services.
Other notable laws passed during this legislative session include banning puppy mills and ensuring humane treatment of animals in Colorado, supporting entrepreneur cooks and small businesses, and modernizing the Regional Transportation District (RTD) to be more transparent and provide stronger transportation options for Coloradans.
As Governor Polis's term comes to an end, he leaves behind a legacy of progress, innovation, and dedication to making Colorado a better place for its residents. The 2026 Legislative Session will be remembered as a time of hard work, lively debate, and meaningful progress for the state.
