Colorado Springs: City announces memorable new addition to Garden of the Gods Park
TelAve News/10892522
~ Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services (PRCS) Department has announced plans for a new water-based recreational feature at Garden of the Gods Park. With summer temperatures on the rise and a growing interest in unique outdoor experiences, this project aims to provide visitors with a never-before-seen perspective of the park's iconic red rock formations while offering a refreshing way to beat the heat.
Acting PRCS Director Kim King expressed excitement about the project, stating that it has been in the works for some time. "Now that we've completed the necessary waterline infrastructure in 2025, we realized we had both the capability and audacity to do something like this," she said.
Described as a "lazy river-style, geologically tantalizing experience," the feature will consist of a gently winding water route that complements the natural landscape. It will include designated entry points, scenic floating areas, and family-friendly features. Early concepts also showcase float paths near some of the park's most recognizable landmarks, such as a potential "Balanced Rock Bend."

Construction is set to begin next week, with crews already mobilizing on site as of today. The project is expected to progress throughout the spring and open ahead of Summer 2026, assuming everything goes according to plan.
While Garden of the Gods Park will remain open during construction, visitors may notice increased activity in certain areas. This includes intermittent trail adjustments, minor traffic impacts near work zones, and an unusual sight of heavy equipment preparing what appears to be a river where one did not previously exist.
For more information and updates on the project, interested individuals can follow the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Department on social media. With this exciting addition to Garden of the Gods Park, visitors can look forward to a one-of-a-kind experience that combines relaxation with stunning views of nature's beauty.
