Colorado Springs: City Council accepts donation of historic Pikeview Quarry site for future community use
TelAve News/10894720
~ Colorado Springs City Council has officially accepted a generous donation of approximately 100 acres of land known as the Pikeview Quarry. The resolution was approved today, authorizing the city to add this land to its growing portfolio of parkland and open space assets.
The donation, made by Castle Concrete Company, is part of a larger effort to assemble over 400 acres of former quarry and surrounding land in northwest Colorado Springs. This multi-phase project aims to transform what was once a place of extraction into a place of restoration for future generations.
Mayor Yemi Mobolade expressed his gratitude for this partnership, stating that the donation is an investment in the future of Colorado Springs. He acknowledged that while Pikeview Quarry played a significant role in building the city, it also left a visible scar on the landscape. With this donation, the city can now work towards healing and preserving this area for years to come.

Mining operations at Pikeview Quarry began over a century ago in 1903 and provided materials for various projects across Colorado Springs, including the construction of the U.S. Air Force Academy. However, operations permanently ceased in 2018, and since then, extensive reclamation work has been underway.
Between 2022 and 2025, licensed engineers have stabilized slopes, improved drainage, placed topsoil, and planted over 31,000 trees and shrubs as part of the reclamation process. State regulators have also reviewed and approved these efforts. An independent technical review conducted for the City confirmed that significant improvements have been made to site stability and deemed it suitable for transfer.
Located on the northwest side of Colorado Springs near Centennial Blvd and Allegheny Drive at the base of Front Range foothills, Pikeview Quarry will soon become part of the city's public engagement process to determine its future use. The property transfer is expected to be finalized in mid-May.
This generous donation by Castle Concrete Company marks an important step towards preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of Colorado Springs. The City Council and Mayor Mobolade are committed to engaging residents in shaping the best use for this land, ensuring its lasting impact on the community.
