~ Colorado Springs Launches 2026 Paving Season for 2C Road Improvements Program

The City of Colorado Springs has officially announced the start of the 2026 paving season for the highly anticipated 2C Road Improvements Program. This marks the beginning of another year of work aimed at improving road conditions throughout the city, following the approval from voters.

With approximately 125 lane miles of roadway improvements planned across 109 road segments, this year's paving season will see major corridors and neighborhoods across the city benefitting from much-needed upgrades. The program, which was recently renewed for another 10 years, represents an impressive $820 million investment in local infrastructure and is considered to be the largest road repaving effort in Colorado Springs history.

Since its initial approval by voters, the 2C program has already made significant progress in improving road conditions. Nearly 1,900 lane miles have been repaved and over 12,000 ADA-compliant curb ramps have been added or upgraded. As a result, there has been a notable decrease of over 33% in pothole complaints, demonstrating tangible improvements that residents experience on a daily basis.

Mayor Yemi Mobolade expressed his appreciation for the community's trust and emphasized that taking care of infrastructure is a top priority for residents. "The 2C program reflects our responsibility to deliver safer and more reliable roads that enhance quality of life in Colorado Springs," he stated.

Some of the high-profile projects included in this year's paving season are multiple segments of Circle Drive, as well as improvements along Union Boulevard, Palmer Park Boulevard, and Chelton Road. Additionally, crews will be working on paving projects in various neighborhoods such as Costilla Street, North 25th Street, and Pioneer Lane. City officials want to stress that the focus of the 2C program is on long-term solutions, addressing aging roads before they become a major issue and reducing the need for costly repairs in the future. "This program allows us to be proactive instead of reactive," said Corey Farkas, Operations and Maintenance Division Manager. "By prioritizing roads in the worst condition, we are improving safety, extending pavement life, and saving taxpayers an estimated $21 million annually through preventive maintenance."

As crews will be actively working throughout the city during the paving season, residents can expect temporary traffic impacts such as lane closures and delays in work zones. Drivers are urged to slow down, follow posted signage, and consider using alternate routes when possible.

While pothole repairs will continue to be addressed as needed, city officials want to remind residents that full resurfacing and reconstruction through the 2C program provides a more lasting solution.
