~ Colorado Springs Police Department Notifies Community of Sex Offender's Move
The Colorado Springs Police Department has recently made a community notification in accordance with Colorado law regarding the relocation of Mitchell Wayne Bishop, a registered sex offender. Bishop, who has been labeled as a "Sexually Violent Predator" (SVP) by the Colorado Courts due to his past behavior, has moved to an address in Colorado Springs.
As part of their legal obligations, the police department has taken several steps to ensure that the community is aware of Bishop's presence and that he understands his responsibilities as a sex offender. These steps include notifying the Colorado Department of Public Safety's Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) Notification Team, reviewing and confirming Bishop's residence, employment status, access to vehicles, legal status, and past crimes.
In addition, the police department has also made notifications to neighbors and businesses in the immediate area, briefed patrol personnel on Bishop's status and history, notified surrounding law enforcement agencies, and provided an online video explaining the SVP community notification process and additional resources for the community.

Bishop's criminal history reveals that he was convicted in 2007 of Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child and Child Abuse in Denver County. He was also convicted of Domestic Violence-Harassment in 1995. Currently registered as homeless, Bishop is living near "Springs Rescue Mission" at 5 W Las Vegas St. He is described as a white male, 66 years old, 6'0" tall, weighing 248lbs with gray hair and brown eyes.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, there are currently twenty "Sexually Violent Predators" registered in this community. The department takes Bishop's presence very seriously and is committed to ensuring that he follows all laws and regulations while living in the community.
Detective J.R. Brown from the Registered Sex Offender Unit at the Colorado Springs Police Department can be contacted at 719-444-7672 for any further questions about Bishop and the community notification process. The department urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior from Bishop or any other registered sex offenders in the community.
