Colorado Springs: CSPD Partners with DEA for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day This Saturday
TelAve News/10896476
~ Colorado Springs, CO- The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have joined forces to promote the safe disposal of unused or expired medications. This initiative is in support of DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The partnership between CSPD and DEA aims to remind community members about the importance of properly disposing of unused prescription drugs. The message is simple: clean out your medicine cabinets, keep your medications safe, and take them back.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., CSPD will be supporting multiple drop-off locations across the city where residents can anonymously dispose of their medications with no questions asked. These locations include King Soopers on 7915 Constitution Avenue, Memorial Hospital North on 4050 Briargate Parkway, Police Operations Center on 705 S Nevada Avenue, and Security Public Library on 715 Aspen Drive.

The dangers of keeping unused prescription drugs in homes cannot be ignored. They are a leading cause of accidental poisoning, misuse, and addiction among children, teens, and vulnerable individuals. By participating in this event and properly disposing of these medications, community members can help reduce the risk of misuse and protect their families and communities.
Proper disposal is not only important for preventing substance misuse but also for protecting the environment. Flushing medications or throwing them in the trash can harm the environment. Therefore, take-back events like this one are the safest and most responsible option.
According to CSPD Sergeant Jeffrey Ma, "National Take Back Day provides a safe and convenient way for our community to remove potentially dangerous medications from their homes." He also emphasized that this effort helps support overall public safety.
Both CSPD and DEA are encouraging all residents to take a few minutes to check their medicine cabinets and participate in this important event. For more information about National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, visit the DEA website at https://www.dea.gov/takebackday. Let's all do our part in keeping our community safe and healthy.
