Colorado Springs: Family of kidnapped 2-year-old releases public statement

~ Colorado Springs, CO- The family of Geovani Salazar-President has released a statement through the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) regarding Tuesday's events. The 2-year-old child was reported missing after a kidnapping and car theft from an apartment in the 2700 block of King Street.
In their statement, the family expressed their gratitude for the community's support and the swift response from CSPD in locating Geovani safe and unharmed. They also thanked law enforcement for their ongoing efforts to locate the suspect involved in this case.
The family has requested privacy during this difficult and emotional time as they focus on their son's well-being. They have also asked for understanding and respect from the media, stating that continued attention is adding further strain on their family.
CSPD has confirmed that there are no updates to share publicly on the investigation and search for the suspect at this time. The investigation is still ongoing, and evidence is being processed to develop potential suspect information.

According to previous reports, CSPD received a call for service regarding a kidnapping and car theft at around 2:43 p.m. on Tuesday. The stolen vehicle was a black 2021 Kia Seltos with Geovani in the back seat.
Responding officers immediately deployed resources, including drones, CCTV cameras, red light cameras, automatic license plate recognition cameras, and live feeds from body-worn cameras to locate Geovani and the stolen vehicle.
Officers from various divisions within CSPD quickly responded to the scene and began investigating while searching for any potential leads. The RTCC was able to provide a photo of Geovani and an image of the stolen vehicle's last known location, aiding officers in their search efforts.
At approximately 5 p.m., officers from CSPD's Tactical Enforcement Unit located the stolen vehicle with Geovani still in the back seat, unharmed. The suspect had abandoned the vehicle and was no longer at the scene. CSPD is continuing to investigate and develop potential suspect information.
Authorities are also asking for anyone in the area of the 2700 block of King Street who may have home security footage that captured anything unusual to come forward and share it with CSPD.
As this remains an ongoing investigation, CSPD will continue to provide updates through official channels when appropriate. The family has stated that they will not be speaking with the media at this time.
