Colorado Springs: North Cheyenne Canyon Road to reopen Friday
TelAve News/10869623
~ Colorado Springs, CO - After weeks of closure due to severe rain damage, North Cheyenne Canyon Road has finally reopened to the public. City officials announced today that the road will be accessible once again starting Friday afternoon, July 18th.
The popular recreation area was closed on June 4th when heavy rainfall caused a portion of the roadway to wash out about 1.5 miles from the Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center. The city immediately began repair work on nearby infrastructure and also constructed a retaining structure to prevent future damage.
Crews have been working tirelessly since July 7th to rebuild the road and have completed the repairs just in time for the upcoming weekend. Gayle Sturdivant, City Engineer and Public Works Deputy Director, expressed gratitude for the public's patience during the closure. "We are grateful to the public for their patience and understanding as we completed this repair," she said.

Scott Abbott, Regional Parks Manager, also extended his thanks to partners in Public Works and Colorado Springs Utilities for their hard work and expertise in completing the project quickly. He also acknowledged park users for their cooperation and understanding during the road closures.
While North Cheyenne Canyon Road is now open, there are still some final touches that need to be completed, including installing a permanent guardrail. This may result in intermittent lane closures in the coming weeks. Drivers are advised to use caution when traveling through the canyon due to its narrow roadway, steep grade, and sharp curves.
