Columbia Fire Department responds to commercial structure fire, April 30

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Fire Department (CFD) responded to a commercial structure fire on Thursday afternoon, April 30th. The incident occurred at approximately 1:47 p.m. in the 2400 block of Whitegate Drive.

Upon arrival, CFD found a two-story apartment complex with smoke coming from a second-story unit. The firefighters quickly sprang into action, ascending the stairs to reach the fire and searching for any potential victims. At the same time, they began attacking the flames to bring them under control.

Thanks to their swift response, the incident was contained within just 15 minutes of CFD's arrival. The only occupant who was home at the time of the fire had already evacuated by jumping out of a window before CFD arrived. They were transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

A total of five fire companies, two battalion chiefs, and one safety captain with 19 personnel were involved in responding to this incident. Currently, the Columbia Fire Marshals Battalion is conducting an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
