(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ COLUMBIA, MO - The City Council has announced that a special election will be held on August 4 to fill the Ward 4 city council member seat, which will be vacated by Nick Foster on June 12. This decision was made during the May 4 City Council meeting.

According to the City Clerk's Office, residents who are interested in running for the Ward 4 City Council must file a nominating petition for office. The filing period will begin on May 12 and end on June 2 at 5 p.m. Petitions and instructions can be obtained from the City Clerk's Office at City Hall during regular business hours.

To be eligible for candidacy, individuals must be qualified voters and residents of Ward 4. They must also not hold any lucrative public office, as stated in the City Charter. Additionally, candidates must obtain at least 50 signatures from registered voters residing in Ward 4.

For those who are unsure of their ward, maps can be found on CoMo.gov/boards/city-council/wards-map/.

The Ward 4 Council seat will remain vacant until a successor is elected and qualified. The newly elected council member will serve the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends in April of 2028.

This special election provides an opportunity for residents of Ward 4 to have their voices heard and elect a representative who will serve their community's best interests.
