CHARLESTON, W.Va. - TelAve -- The Constitution Party of West Virginia enters the 2026 general election with nine candidates seeking seats in the West Virginia Legislature. According to Ballot Access News, West Virginia has 19 minor-party legislative candidates on the ballot in 2026, the most since at least 1936.

Ballot Access News reports that of those 19 candidates, nine are Constitution Party nominees, while the Libertarian and Mountain parties each have five. The publication also notes that the previous high was 10 minor-party legislative candidates in 1998.

The Constitution Party's nine legislative nominees represent an expansion of the party's candidate recruitment efforts and give voters in those districts an additional choice on the November ballot.

The legislative candidates are joined by Constitution Party nominees seeking federal and local offices in 2026. The party's announced slate includes S. Marshall Wilson for U.S. Senate, appearing statewide; Belinda Fox-Spencer for the U.S. House of Representatives, 1st Congressional District, appearing within that congressional district; and Tricia Jackson for Jefferson County Commission, appearing before voters in Jefferson County.

West Virginia currently recognizes five political parties: Constitution, Democratic, Libertarian, Mountain and Republican. Under state election rules, recognized political parties nominate candidates for the general election through a primary election or a nominating convention.

The Constitution Party of West Virginia states that its organization is focused on constitutional government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, and limited government, as well as building county organizations and recruiting candidates for public office.

With the November general election approaching, West Virginia voters can find official candidate information, voter registration resources, polling-place information, absentee-ballot resources, and other election information through the West Virginia Secretary of State's GoVoteWV program.
