Dishonest Brokers Are Destroying Small Businesses, Says Get a Business Loan CEO

Boca Raton financing executive calls out false approvals, misrepresented rates, and commission-first selling—and urges merchant education, transparency, and funder accountability.

BOCA RATON, Fla. - TelAve -- BOCA RATON, Fla. — October 17, 2026 — Justin Solomon, CEO of Get a Business Loan, today warned that dishonest brokers and complacent funders are undermining small businesses and the business financing industry, in a new commentary published on LinkedIn.

In "How Dishonest Brokers Are Destroying Small Businesses and the Business Financing Industry," Solomon argues that the industry's biggest problems are not a lack of capital or products, but a lack of honesty, accountability, and willingness to put merchants ahead of commissions. Drawing on seven years of experience running an independent ISO, serving as Chief Revenue Officer at Fundkite, and working across brokerage, funding, and underwriting, he describes practices that leave business owners with financing they do not fully understand—and erode trust in the entire sector.

Among the tactics Solomon flags are false approvals before meaningful underwriting, factor rates presented as if they were APRs, "no fees" pitches that still reduce net proceeds, manufactured urgency, brokers posing as direct lenders, and promises of a future line of credit or long-term loan after a merchant accepts a short-term cash advance. He notes that such an advance can reduce cash flow and borrowing capacity, making the desired longer-term product harder to obtain—unless a better deal has actually been committed under clearly defined conditions.

"Not every conversation needs to become a sale," Solomon writes. "Sometimes the most valuable thing you can offer a merchant is the truth." He adds that he would rather lose a transaction by telling someone the truth than win one by making a promise he cannot keep, and that weak salespeople sell whatever they can close while strong salespeople sell what they can stand behind.

Merchant education, he argues, is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle. Owners who understand factor rates versus APR, debt-service capacity, net proceeds, total repayment, and how today's financing affects tomorrow's options are harder to mislead.

That philosophy, Solomon says, is central to Get a Business Loan: a private business finance company built around transparency, education, and the merchant's long-term interests—not a mass-application marketplace or lead-generation operation. Technology and automation should help merchants understand their options and make better decisions, not merely accelerate sales. When financing is not appropriate, the company should be willing to say so.

Business owners with questions about an offer, or who want to understand how business funding works, are invited to reach out with no sales pitch, pressure, or obligation, Solomon concludes. "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
