Broomfield, CO ~ Broomfield, CO - The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) held a news conference earlier today to present the state's 2026 Wildfire Preparedness Plan to Governor Jared Polis. Along with state and federal partners, DFPC Director Mike Morgan discussed the current wildfire outlook and highlighted the resources that are in place to combat wildfires.
During the conference, Governor Polis emphasized the importance of protecting communities and forests, stating that the 2026 Preparedness Plan reflects Colorado's strong commitment to this goal. He also announced the launch of the Mountain Pine Beetle Outbreak Task Force as part of their efforts to keep Coloradans safe.
Director Morgan further explained that the 2026 Wildfire Preparedness Plan acknowledges that wildfire is no longer just a seasonal threat, but a year-round challenge. He stressed the need for constant vigilance and a holistic strategy in order to effectively combat wildfires. This includes utilizing advanced technology such as Multi-Mission Aircraft and the FireGuard program for early detection, as well as maintaining a strong fleet of firefighting aircraft and dedicated ground suppression resources.
