Emergency Shelter Available in St. Louis January 14-15, 2026
TelAve News/10885954
~ The City of St. Louis is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents as temperatures are expected to drop to 20°F overnight. The Department of Human Services, along with its partners, has announced the activation of additional emergency shelters starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
This move comes as the city's Code Blue alert has been raised to level 3, which means that a total of 350 emergency shelter beds will be made available in addition to the existing 400 year-round shelter beds. The City has also provided a list of walk-up shelter options for those in need.
To accommodate families and individuals with pets, additional locations have been made available by appointment through the United Way 211 Helpline or by speaking with a coordinator at designated rally points. In case a walk-up shelter reaches its maximum capacity, transportation will be provided to another shelter with sufficient space.

In addition to this, level 3 activation also means that transportation will be available from various rally points across the city. These rally points have either a warming bus or an indoor facility for individuals to seek refuge from the cold weather. Each shuttle is equipped with both a driver and an outreach worker.
For those who require alternative transportation, they can contact the United Way 211 Helpline by dialing 211. With winter precipitation expected later this week, the Street Department has already begun preparations by planning to brine arterial snow routes on Thursday morning.
The City of St. Louis and its partners are closely monitoring weather conditions and will continue to provide updates on emergency shelters and efforts to keep streets passable as needed. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions and seek shelter if needed during these extreme weather conditions.
