Evansville: Mayor Terry Announces Return of My Summer Ride Free Youth METS Bus Program
TelAve News/10897057
Evansville, Ind. ~ Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry has announced the return of the My Summer Ride initiative for its second year, providing free METS bus service to youth in the city during the summer months. The program, which will run from May 26 to August 7, is open to all youth ages 18 and under.
Last summer, METS provided over 15,000 summer rides as part of the City's Safe Summer initiative. My Summer Ride was created with the goal of reducing transportation barriers that often prevent young people from accessing jobs, summer programs, libraries, parks, and other important community resources.
According to Mayor Terry, "We want our young people engaged, connected, and supported this summer. My Summer Ride helps make that possible by giving youth safe, reliable access to the places and programs that help them grow."
To make the program more accessible, the city will be working with local youth-serving organizations to distribute METS bus passes. These passes can be picked up at various locations including the CK Newsome Center, METS Admin Building, and all public city pools. Students who may appear older than 18 will need to show a school ID or report card when picking up their bus passes.

Participants in My Summer Ride will have access to both METS fixed route and METS Mobility services at no cost. The free rides are available for any purpose and not just limited to school-related activities. However, children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The My Summer Ride program aligns with several of Mayor Terry's core priorities including youth development by expanding access to enrichment, education, and employment opportunities; public safety by providing safe and reliable transportation options; and economic development by removing barriers that can hinder young people from entering the workforce.
For more information about the program or how to obtain a bus pass, individuals can call METS at 812-435-6166 or speak with any bus operator.
Media inquiries can be directed to Anna Raben, Communications Director for the Office of Mayor Stephanie Terry, at 812-305-0543 or araben@evansville.in.gov.
