Free legal clinic marks final opportunity for seniors seeking storm-related legal guidance
FORT MYERS, Fla. - TelAve -- Lee County Legal Aid Society will hold its final session in a series of free legal clinics for seniors on Wednesday, April 8, with Law at The Heights. The event, presented in partnership with the AARP Foundation, offers no-cost, limited civil legal guidance for older residents still coping with issues that began after Hurricane Ian in 2022 and were complicated by Hurricane Milton in 2024.
"Even now, many seniors are dealing with long-term legal and financial complications tied to these storms," said Andrew Banyai, executive director of Lee County Legal Aid Society. "These clinics are intended to help people understand their options and make sure they don't have to manage these challenges without support."
The upcoming free clinic will take place at The Heights Center, located at 15570 Hagie Drive, in Fort Myers, Fla., from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to Lee County residents ages 50 and older.

Attendees will have access to a free legal Q&A, where volunteer attorneys will address questions related to civil matters, with an emphasis on hurricane-related issues such as insurance disputes, housing concerns and recovery assistance.
While participation is free and walk-ins are welcome, registration is recommended. To register, please email Nanci@leecountylegalaid.org with contact information and a brief description of the legal advice being sought. Any relevant documents should be brought to the clinic. Those in attendance will also be welcome to giveaways provided by the Legal Aid Society, including pens, flash drives and cups.
Unlike in criminal law, there is no constitutional right to counsel in civil law, which includes landlord-tenant disputes, foreclosures, evictions, probate, debt collection, child custody cases, domestic violence orders of protection and more. Lee County Legal Aid Society provides free legal counsel for these types of civil cases for residents of Lee County who qualify.

About Lee County Legal Aid Society
Founded in 1967, Lee County Legal Aid Society is a private, nonprofit organization that provides no-cost civil legal aid to low-income residents of Lee County. The organization helps narrow the access to justice gap among those who cannot afford a private attorney in civil cases. In partnership with the Lee County Clerk of the Court, Lee County Legal Aid Society offers free, 20-minute "self-help" legal clinics that pair attorneys in private practice with those in need of legal services.
