~ Boston Mayor Michelle Wu kicked off the first-ever Boston Tech Week earlier this week, highlighting the city's role as a global hub for innovation and collaboration in the technology industry. The week-long event celebrates the city's thriving tech community and showcases why entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and students from around the world are choosing to build and grow their businesses in Boston.
"We're thrilled that the first-ever Boston Tech Week is shining a spotlight on our incredible innovation community," said Mayor Wu. "With hundreds of events planned throughout the week, we are showcasing how we continue to drive momentum forward. Boston has the talent, infrastructure, and culture of innovation that companies need to succeed on a global scale."
The goal of Tech Week is to showcase some of the world's greatest entrepreneurial communities, with Boston being chosen as this year's launch location. Jonathan Lai, general partner at a16z, expressed his excitement for the event stating, "Amidst the AI supercycle, it's the best time in a decade to start a company in Boston with access to world-class universities, deep technical talent, and entrepreneurial hubs across software, biohealth, robotics, deeptech, and more." Lai also noted that there has been an overwhelming response from the Boston community with over 660 events planned for the week.

Boston Tech Week follows two previous Future of Boston's Innovation Economy convenings where city and business leaders came together to promote cross-industry collaboration. These efforts are part of a larger initiative to position Boston as a top destination for global talent and investment. Recent milestones include a $200 million investment from the Spanish government into Boston's tech ecosystem to support biotech startups and scientists looking to bring their research to market.
In addition to this investment, Mayor Wu announced several other initiatives aimed at promoting business growth in Boston. These include creating a new Business Recruitment Fund seeded by M&T Bank and hosted by The Boston Foundation and launching "You Can't Beat Boston," a campaign developed by industry partners to showcase Boston's position as a premier talent hub and global business destination. The city also announced a public-private partnership with Paul English and UMass Boston to ensure that all Boston Public Schools students have access to AI literacy education.
